Counting Daisies by Nicola Haken
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Well Nicola has done it again, she's wrote about a touchy subject and done it beautifully.
This book is full of emotion, love and friendship. Dylan and Cameron where made for each other.
I've put off reading this because I knew it was going to be an emotional one and YES it is, I had tears but no ugly crying for me this time.

Excerpt from The Anonymous Life by Marissa Farrar
It
started with a photograph.
A
single, crazy, adrenaline-filled moment of madness.
I’d
had enough of being ignored, of being the maid, the chef, the chauffeur to my
unappreciative family. I dreamed of the days when men used to drop to their
knees before me in the streets. They’d beg to buy me drinks, just to get me to
spend a little time in their company, and, if they were lucky, snatch a kiss
and take me home to their bed. Now, I was invisible. A mother, a wife, a
housekeeper. I longed to be seen as something sexual again, and so I took the
photo.
I
made sure not to include my face. I didn’t want to be identified. Instead, I
held the camera on my phone with one hand and cupped my breasts with the other,
squeezing them together so the tops lifted and rounded in globes. My nipples
peeped between my fingers, crinkled and hard. The lighting wasn’t perfect, and
I had no idea what filters to use, but that didn’t matter.
I
posted it online.
It
was on one of the popular social media sites, known more for its raunchy posts
than some of the others. I’d used the site to watch porno GIFs often enough,
but I’d never had the guts to comment or post something of my own.
Until
now.
I
gave myself an online name—theanonymouslife.
All one word.
It
was only a single picture, but already my emotions surged up inside me, making
me feel alive—a mixture of excitement and guilt, and horniness.
Already,
I was addicted.
I
stayed on the computer, checking for comments and reblogs. People liked my
tits, it seemed. More than my husband, who hadn’t laid a finger on me in
forever. There were a couple of negative notes, but I brushed over them in
favour of the positive ones. Damn trolls were everywhere.
I
don’t know why I got such a thrill from posting my picture online, or why I’d
even felt the need to do it at all. Maybe there was anger in me, a
resentfulness I couldn’t shift, and posting the photo felt a little bit like
revenge. Or rebellion. I resented my husband for plunging me into a life of
celibacy that I’d never asked for. I’d always been a sexual person, and still
was, but now sex was denied to me. My children stole my body away, though they
never asked to do that, and I would never hold them responsible. I love my
kids. They are the one thing that keeps me walking the straight and narrow when
all I want to do is run, screaming, throwing off my clothes and frustrations as
I do so. I dream of a future alone, where I can pick and choose men as I
please, allow them in my life for a short while, only to continue alone once
more. Sometimes now, I feel like I barely have enough time to have a thought to
myself without being interrupted. I can feel the years slipping away, knowing
I’ll never get them back. I’m only in my early thirties—too young to be this
dried up person already—and the thought of the rest of my life as a sexless
woman terrifies me. I love my husband, I do, but he doesn’t seem to have any
interest in me anymore. He’s always too tired from a long day at work. I don’t
know if he has no interest in sex in general or if it’s just me that no longer
excites him. I can’t say I blame him. After seeing the births of two babies,
I’m not sure I’d excite me either. But I can’t bring myself to break up our
home, can’t stand the thought of the hurt in our children’s eyes if we
separated. Plus, he’s a good guy. I like his company, most of the time. We’re
just missing that important element.
So,
instead of dealing with the real problem at hand, I took the photograph.
It
was harmless. I wasn’t hurting anyone. But quickly I discovered one picture was
not enough.

Excerpt
from Fantasy Assignment:
I couldn’t believe my luck when I heard
what my next editorial assignment was. In fact I discreetly pinched myself to
make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
My editor wanted me to write an article on
Single Living Accommodation in the British Army. The British Army. Big deal, I
hear you thinking. Perhaps I’d better explain. I have a real thing about men in
uniform, I always have had. Stick me in front of a hot guy in uniform and I’m
putty in their hands. So you see, I was rather excited at the prospect of being
around all those sexy men. And even better, I was going to be paid for it. Talk
about perks of the job.
The article was planned into an upcoming
edition of the glossy women’s magazine I work for. The ‘careers special’ was
designed to give the readers an insight into different industries and jobs
within them.
I only had a few days to prepare for my
assignment, so I did my homework and made lots of notes. I always like to be
well prepared, to avoid the chance of messing something up and getting a
bollocking from the editor.
Soon enough, the day arrived and I dragged
myself out of bed at 6 a.m.—a chore in itself as I’m not a morning person—got
my things together and took a taxi to the train station. I had strict
instructions on where I had to change trains, where I should go and who I
should look for when arriving at my destination. Corporal Matt Stokes would be
there waiting for me. Given he’d be in uniform, I wasn’t too worried about
recognising him.
When I boarded the first train and got
settled into my seat, I grabbed my bag and pulled out a magazine. After reading
the same page three times and realising I still had no idea what it was about,
I gave up. I allowed my mind to wander. Would Corporal Stokes be attractive?
Would he be tall and slim; small and well-built? Aloof, cheeky; who knew? All I
knew for sure was that there was a good chance I’d think he was sexy simply
because of what he was wearing. In my opinion, the uniform screams masculinity
and sex. It hides what is beneath, leaving that to your imagination, but gives
the impression of the wearer being rough and ready—just how I like my men.
After a speedy change of trains, I relaxed
and let my thoughts wander for some time, until I heard the announcement that
my station was the next one. I got myself ready, checked I had all my stuff
together and perched on the edge of my seat. I was also aware that my daydreams
had left me feeling more than a little horny, and as a consequence, my
underwear was damp. I smiled to myself. I hadn’t even set eyes on a squaddie
yet and my mind was in the gutter. Heaven knows what I’d be like when I was
surrounded by hard male bodies, and the smell of sweat and spunk.
Perhaps I’d become immune to the charm of
the uniform after seeing it constantly for a couple of days? Only time would
tell. Five minutes to be precise; which was the time it took for the train to
pull in at the platform and for me to get off and look around for my lift. As
I’d expected, he wasn’t difficult to spot. As soon as I laid eyes on the six
foot plus frame of Corporal Stokes, I knew I would never get bored of that
uniform as long as I lived. Especially on him.

New Release - Into Her Fantasies b y Angel Payne
He’s just a client…
So Lucy Fava tells herself when arriving on the Island of Arcadia, desperate to save her wedding planning company by securing the year’s biggest bash: a double Cimarron wedding. But first she must impress the man holding the kingdom’s purse strings: Prince Shiraz Cimarron.
Beyond beautiful and unspeakably alpha, the enigmatic male ignites every drop of Lucy’s blood—and a flood of dark, dangerous fantasies. She vows to leave Arcadia as soon as possible, but when Mother Nature grounds her, she can’t resist a taste of her fiery desire for Shiraz.
It’s just a fling…
The words become Lucy’s mantra, even as she discovers the man beneath the three-piece suits, the soul hidden in his perfect body, the lover beyond his regal kisses. The dominant fantasy she’s craved her entire life…
It will change her forever.
When real-life pierces their passionate bubble, Lucy realizes how deeply seduction has become addiction, passion has turned into need…attraction has deepened to love. But Shiraz has promised to be his country’s hero by following through on a loveless marriage, meaning it’s time for Lucy to cut her losses and run. Should be easy. She’s done this a thousand times before.
Only never like this.
Never while cutting out her heart at the same time.
Note: Each book of The Cimarron Series can be read as a stand-alone story, though some readers may enjoy the continuity of secondary characters when reading the books in order. Every novel is a stand-alone story with a happy ending.
Book 3 of the series is the explosive love story of Prince Shiraz Cimarron and headstrong American Lucina Fava…
Hi there. I'm Angel: book lover, writing addict, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek and avid shoe lover.
A bit about me...
I've been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances--the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed--though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets...backstage passes...that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.
These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

Excerpt:
“Why are you so twitchy?” Sophia asked.
The art exhibit for their brother’s paintings was quite
lovely, but Edward Stanton was beginning to deeply regret being a supportive
sibling. Leaving his home in Montana, where the air smelled like freedom and
people didn’t glare – because there were so few actual people – and coming to
this festering hellhole called Boston gave him good reason to twitch.
His sister’s words made him groan inwardly, though. If he
told her the truth, she would belittle him. If he lied, she would smell it on
him.
Of course she would. She was a bear shifter, with a nose most
vintners would kill to possess. Sophia could smell emotions. She could sniff
out subterfuge and intrigue, sex and anger. He was certain she could smell
lottery ticket winners, if she tried.
Not that a billionaire heiress would need such a skill.
Edward steeled himself, wishing he could hide scent the way
he had trained himself to hide emotion. Even shifters had limits, sadly.
“I’m tired. The jet seats weren’t comfortable,” he lied. A
powerful hum from some sort of heating and cooling system kicked in, making his
back teeth rattle. How much longer must he stay to be polite? The city was full
of too many unexpected vibrations and jolts, sounds like jeers and mockery. His
head began to throb, a steady beat taking over.
Sophia rolled her eyes and took a small pastry from a tray as
a server passed by, stuffing it in her mouth. “You are the worst liar ever.
Didn’t you learn a thing from Derry? You would never guess you’re brothers.”
Half brothers, he thought. Of the five Stanton children,
Edward was the only one without a full sibling. He was also the only mountain
lion shifter. He needed to roam. Desired space.
Craved land.
Downtown Boston, at an art gallery packed into a gentrified
district where people lived in apartments the size of thumbnails, was the absolute
opposite of what he wanted right now.
But they were here to support Derry in his art, and by God,
he would fake his way through this.
Even if Derry just ditched them to reunite with his human
mate, the limo speeding them off to Derry’s loft, leaving his cheerleading
squad stuck in this gallery, eating overcooked rumaki and pretending to enjoy
the other exhibits.
“I know you hate the city,” Sophia said, her voice dropping
into a compassionate whisper. “But that was years ago, a random tragedy. We can
help you. It’s sweet of you to come here for Derry.”
Edward’s body went cold. He didn’t want to talk about the
past. And he certainly did not want to talk about the last time he was in
Boston.
“Super sweet!” Molly, his sister-in-law’s friend, approached
him and Sophia, her bright blue eyes overly friendly, cheeks flushed with
excitement or wine. Or both.
His body responded to her presence, skin heating up, muscles
expanding as blood pumped with a ferocious, almost-unfair speed designed to
make him ready for...
For something he’d given up a decade ago.
